Life is a Revelation…be encouraged

We Always Have A Choice

We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us
so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid,
or we can let them soften us, and make us kinder.
We always have the choice.

Dalai Lama

The idea for this post came from Kara at Thank you Kara for the inspiration and the quote from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Be encouraged!

  1. Hmmm, sad but true. It is easier to blame something or someone on why life isn’t what we want it to be. Learning to respond rather than react takes diligence and and open mind that I am not necessarily correct in my thinking. There are two sides to every story and others have also been shaped by their own circumstances. When my life intersects with another I can learn not only about someone else but also about myself. Even when someone is unkind, I can decide to respond with kindness. Who knows, possibly that will be a turning point for them for change in their life also.

    • All true my lovely Wife…but the most important part of the quote is “we always have a choice.” Thinking about that choice and deciding what is the right response is what creates wisdom. And wisdom is what you possess in abundance.

      I love you.

      You are my encouragement!

It is about choice, isn’t it? We have our agency in this mortal life to choose for ourselves and to hopefully grow from those choices. I love this quote and always could use the reminding. No need to ever get stuck, just soften, learn and move on.
    : )

  3. Beautiful quote. Lately, I’ve begun to believe more and more that being a kind person is the most important choice we can make in life! Thanks for sharing this.

  4. There is nothing that can be added to this, but so much to be taken from it. That man is wise beyond words.

  5. Very true words, they are a universal truth, But he is only repeating something that has been in existence for all time. We do not create truth, we only discover it. Truth is a universal absolute.

    • Excellent point Russell…I remember an interview with the front man for the English rock band Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson who said, “There is no new music, just old music rearranged in a different way.”

That stuck with me as I’ve journeyed along in life seeking Truth and Wisdom.

      Be encouraged!

We do, but we do. We always have a choice. It’s just we don’t always choose.
